appy Holidays! It’s hard to believe another year has flown by and our December issue
is here, featuring so many talented equestrians including all our Hot Horsemen. I’m
excited to have polo player Timmy Dutta as our 2025 Hot Horseman of the Year—he’s a
gifted rider from a great equestrian family and I enjoyed getting to know more about him.
Timmy said the first time he swung a polo mallet it sparked something inside of him. I think
many of us can relate to that—remembering that life-changing moment we first sat on a horse
or pony. Whether young or old, horses became our life, just like Timmy’s. I’m excited for you to
get to know more about Timmy—who truly loves all animals, including Daisy the Duck. I hope
you’ll also enjoy meeting our Hot Horsemen—Michel Feitosa, Roger Sorhagen, Shane Powell,
Spencer O’Donnell, Tom Urban, Erik Gudmundson, Jay Sims, Colton Campbell, Justin Haefner,
Bruce Griffin, Will Simons and Charles Hairfield. Big thanks to our writer Annelise Klepper for
wrangling all the guys and getting their bios written.
We have so many great stories in this issue, including dressage rider Emily Brollier Curtis and
her incredible life with memory loss after a fall. Don’t miss her story! And I’m excited to feature
eventer Kate Sand, who knew from the time she was 11 years old that she wanted to be an eventer
and compete at the top of the sport.
This is also a special issue for me, as I transition to the position of executive editor of Sidelines.
My longtime assistant editor, Britney Grover, will become the editor and together we will continue to
create an equestrian magazine featuring riders of all levels from all over the country. Britney and I will take
turns writing this Letter going forward, and I’m excited for you to get to know Britney better.
I started my career with Sidelines as a writer and became editor in 2012 with Sidelines founder
Samantha Charles, then continuing with Bob Bell as our second owner, for a total of 165 issues!
Bob and I worked hard to grow Sidelines over the last nine years, and it has been an amazing ride—
and I’m so happy to feature him in our Unbridled column this month. In all those years we only
missed one issue, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. But we picked right back up after
a month off and are still going strong today.
I’m excited that HITS Horse Shows has purchased Sidelines and our presence in the horse
world will continue. One of the things I have enjoyed so much over the years is meeting all the
riders, trainers, owners, grooms and families who are part of our horse world. Learning about their
struggles, triumphs and their love for horses has been a blessing.
I’m excited to continue the ride, and if you have an equestrian in your life with a wonderful story,
send me an email. Also, look for me at horse shows in 2026—I’d love to meet you in person and hear
your stories of life in the horse world. And who knows, you may end up on the pages of Sidelines.

November Issue
I just want to say thank you to everyone at
Sidelines magazine for selecting Kinmar and I to
not only be on the cover but also for allowing me
to share some of our story (“Tanner Korotkin:
Taking the Reins of Tradition” by Helen Townes).
I would like to especially thank Melissa Fuller and
Helen Townes for taking the time to capture these
excellent photos, and making sure they covered as
many bases about our journey as possible.
—Tanner Korotkin
What a fantastic piece on Tanner Korotkin and
the Korotkin family (“Tanner Korotkin: Taking
the Reins of Tradition” by Helen Townes). Love
this and so proud!
—Darryl Korotkin Marschke
So grateful to the amazing team at Sidelines
magazine for this feature (“Wyatt Rofey:
Learning to Fly” by Jessica Grutkowski)! Thank
you, Jan Westmark Bauer, Jessica Grutkowski
and Sophia Donohue Photography, for your
time and creativity. What an honor!
—Wyatt Rofey
Such a great article (“Wyatt Rofey: Learning to
Fly” by Jessica Grutkowski). Wyatt is one of the
nicest, most hardworking kids around! It is such
a pleasure to watch him ride!
—Karen Petersen Ferreira
Such a great article (“Sandra Dalman: Riding
Through Hard Realities” by Jessica Grutkowski)!
We are so grateful for you!
—Marlene Bagans-Fisher
Thank you, Sidelines magazine, for including
me in your November issue (“Sandra Dalman:
Riding Through Hard Realities” by Jessica
Grutkowski)! A little bit of my history, our
business and lupus! I hope to inspire more
people with chronic illness. If anybody out there
has any questions or needs someone to chat with
about it all, please reach out! I’m always here.
—Sandra Dalman
It was a pleasure getting to know Heather Wu
and her incredible story during our interview
and writing this article (““Heather Wu:
Connemara Ponies and Eventing Dreams” by
Sarah Welk Baynum)! Super excited the title
made it to the cover!
—Sarah Welk Baynum
You two are gorgeous (“Shelly Francis:
Learning to Savor the Dressage Journey” by
Laila Edwards). Shelly, you have an amazing
and inspiring story. I especially admire your
comeback stories. Wowza.
—Rachel Paxton Blair
Congratulations on all of your accomplishments
(“Shelly Francis: Learning to Savor the Dressage
Journey” by Laila Edwards)! So nice to see a
hometown girl make it.
—Diane Carter
You taught me how to ride and it was bareback
(“Shelly Francis: Learning to Savor the Dressage
Journey” by Laila Edwards)! Gosh, we were
young! Congrats on all your accomplishments!
—Debra Michelle-Dow

Don’t miss polo player Timmy Dutta’s story in
this issue. Timmy is our 2025 Hot Horseman
of the Year! Thank you, Melissa Fuller, for the
photo shoot and thanks, Timmy, for sharing
your amazing story with us.
Sidelines writers Helen Townes, left, and
Laila Edwards, right, caught up with Boyd
Martin at the inaugural US Equestrian Open
Eventing Final at Morven Park. Boyd and
Miks Master C rode away with the win! So
great to see all the smiles.
Sidelines had a great time visiting the Spanish
Riding School in Vienna, Austria, home of
the famous Lipizzaner Stallions. In addition
to meeting the horses and touring the stables,
Sidelines Executive Editor Jan Westmark Bauer,
left, and her husband, Jerry Bauer, enjoyed the
tack room. Talk about lots of tack to clean!

Big thanks to Sidelines photographer Kacy
Brown, center, for taking the photos of Dr.
Madi Berger Reed, right, for her story in this
issue. Also big thanks to Emily Rodgers, left,
who not only prepared the horses for the shoot
but wrangled them also.
We love seeing people wearing Sidelines
baseball caps (and standing in front of Sidelines
magazines) and we especially love it when it’s
a Sidelines writer! Thanks, Laura Scaletti, for
this great photo taken at Partridge Run Mid
Atlantic Classic at Swan Lake.
Sidelines found Frank and Ashley Conaway and
their daughters, Milan and Kelsie, having a
family day at the Maryland 5 Star.
Deirdre Stoker Vaillancourt was enjoying
Sidelines while overlooking the show jumping
course her husband, Michel Vaillancourt,
designed for the Maryland 5 Star.
What’s better than enjoying a
meal with friends? Enjoying
that meal and also reading
Sidelines! Looks like a great
time, ladies. Left to right:
Jordan Condon, Shannon
Condon, Monica Mayo,
Patricia Petersilia and Michelle
Hilton.
Alexis Iaccarino showed off a Sidelines during the
2025 Gleneayre Horse Show and Hunter Derby
in Lumberton, New Jersey. So glad all the riders
were able to show and get a copy of Sidelines.
Sidelines ran into eventer Caroline Pamukcu, left,
and Matt Crutchfield having fun out at the Loch
Moy Farm Eventing venue in Maryland.
