Women Entrepreneurs

Making Their Mark

on the Equestrian World

t’s hard to believe the May issue is here already! It’s one of my favorites, as we celebrate women

entrepreneurs in the equestrian world. I loved getting to know these strong, talented women

who are changing the world through their passion and dedication.

I’m excited to have Illinois-based dressage rider and entrepreneur Taryn Young on the cover. In

2018, Taryn started an Instagram account called Warmbloods + Wine as a creative outlet, which

has turned into a supportive equestrian community. Taryn didn’t stop there, but also started her

own equestrian clothing company called Novella—there is no stopping a woman entrepreneur

with dreams!

Taryn is busy juggling life with her family, running two companies and competing in the

dressage ring where she and her warmblood Rayne have earned their Bronze, Silver and Gold

medals, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. Taryn has a great story and I hope she inspires

others to find their entrepreneurial spirit.

I’m excited for you to meet the rest of our women entrepreneurs: Anna Mannerfelt Fingers

of Wired Mustang Inc; Darian Mathias Adair of Location Connection, Inc.; Debbie Disbrow

of RAMM Fence and Stalls; Elizabeth Constantin of Elizabeth Constantin Coaching; Sylvia

Kampshoff of Pata Life; and three amazing pony riders: Sophia Luzinski, and Bianca and Grace

Ingui who have started a bracelet company called Good Vibe Bracelets.

We also catch up with equestrians who are working hard in their discipline, including three-

day eventer Aubrey Graham. Aubrey’s passion for re-training off-the-track Thoroughbreds has

expanded to teaching people who love Thoroughbreds also, and I think you’ll enjoy her adventures,

which have taken her from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to her farm in Georgia.

I’ve been a fan of show jumper Lizzy Traband for years and was happy to catch up with her at

the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida, at the beginning of the year. Lizzy’s riding career

began with trick riding and performing around the country with her pony Toby, but today she is a

dedicated trainer and rider, taking each horse at their own pace as they progress in the show world.

I’m excited to welcome three-day eventer Valerie Vizcarrando Pride, a Maryland-based FEI five-

star rider, trainer and “S” judge, as our new eventing columnist. I think you’ll enjoy getting to know

her and I look forward to reading her columns each month. I also want to thank Liz Halliday for

writing our eventing column for the past two years. It was truly a pleasure working with Liz.

On a sad note, we are sorry to share that our Sidelines salesperson Shelly Fisher Viruete has

passed away. Shelly had a tremendous impact on the show world, the Welsh Pony world and

Sidelines; she will be sadly missed, but her impact won’t be forgotten. Shelly’s obituary can be found

on page 44 of this issue.
