Cynthia Brewster-Keating has been riding since she was

10 years old, with both her riding and career spanning

several disciplines and spaces in the equestrian world and

all culminating in her role as National Director of Sales and

Sponsorship for GGT Footing. She’s passionate about the

world-class, polyester fiber footing—as well as the people

and horses who use it.

In her role, Cynthia travels all over the country—but

“home” is Aiken, South Carolina, with her husband, Jim,

and their horses and dogs.

How did you first get involved with horses?

My mom took me on trail rides and then to

lessons. My parents were very supportive of the

idea, but I had to work to pay for the lessons,

clothes, horses etc.

What were your early years with horses like?

I worked after school at the Dana Hall Riding

Centre, catch-rode, took lessons and spent a

couple of summers as a working student.

How did you get to where you are

now in your life and career?

A lot of hard work. I combined my knowledge

and network of equestrians and made it part of

my sales career.

What do you like most about the

discipline you ride or the job you do?

I used to show hunters and jumpers, but now

I enjoy trail riding in Hitchcock Woods. In my

job, I love the horse people I talk to daily—

building longterm relationships with show

managers, course designers, owners and riders.

What do you consider to be your

greatest riding accomplishment so far?

Taking a green Thoroughbred and earning high

honors in show jumping, including amateur

jumper classics in New Jersey, the Devon Horse

Show and many other circuits. I had him for 28

years, and he passed away at age 38 on my farm.

What’s something interesting

or unusual thing about you?

I skipped fourth grade and graduated early.

I had therapeutic foster children in my home for

7 years and got each child into horses!

What do you like to do when

you are not riding or working?

Relaxing at home with my husband and our

three Jack Russell Terriers.

How do you balance everything

going on in your life?

It’s not easy, but so much of my enjoyment is

horse-related that blends naturally with work. I

balance work trips with downtime whenever I

can—sometimes that means taking a little time

by a pool. I meditate and I listen to Joel Osteen

daily for spiritual inspiration.

What pets, family, or horses are most

important in your life right now?

My husband, my three horses and our three

dogs, as well as my brother and his large

extended family.

What impact would you most like to make

on the world, or what message do you try

to share with your example?

Take care of animals and do the right thing by

them. Be kind to children, and most of all, be a

blessing to others.

What are your goals in life or riding?

Thankfully my ego is well satisfied, so showing

is mostly behind me. I don’t have many riding

goals now other than enjoying my horses on the

trails with my husband.
