’ve always loved ponies, so the July Pony and Junior Issue is one of my favorites. My
life with ponies started with riding lessons when I was 5 years old, and when I was 10
I became the proud owner of my own pony. Since those early days I have loved being
part of the horse world.
Just like our equine friends may be small, in this issue I discovered how small the horse
world is. When I had my horse farm in Wellington, Florida, my daughter often rode with
Alan Korotkin, and even competed one of his Pony Jumpers. And now we have Alan and
Kirsty’s daughter, Carsyn, on the cover. It’s a small world.
While the cover photo makes me happy—well, a cute pony really does make me smile—
Carsyn also makes me smile. I love that she is a breath of fresh air, is happily in love with
equines of all sizes, and brings so much joy to her family and friends. Carsyn is a talented
rider, and I think you’ll enjoy getting to know her. She is also a talented singer and even
sang the National Anthem at the Nations Cup night class at the Winter Equestrian Festival
earlier this year.
Not long ago my husband and I visited Clovermeade Ponies in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and
had an amazing time getting to know Cheryl Patton and her daughters, and their fabulous
ponies. We have a story on Clovermeade and Cheryl in this issue and I think you’ll also enjoy
visiting with Cheryl, her family and her ponies.
On our visit to Clovermeade, we met pony stallions, broodmares and foals—and it was
a joy to walk out in the field with the foals and love on them. They were so well-behaved at
such a young age, and I know they’ll grow up to be partnered with young pony riders who
will love them. And hopefully we will do stories on the grown-up ponies and their riders in
the future, because it really is a small horse world.
I’m also happy to introduce you to identical twins Izzy and Zoe Grutkowski—just don’t ask
me to identify who is who in a photo! Izzy and Zoe also happen to have horses who look a lot
alike—so get ready for identical twin riders with identical horses when you read their story.
In keeping with the fact that it’s a small horse world, I met Izzy and Zoe and their parents
at HITS Ocala earlier this year. It was great to watch them show and learn more about their
lives. They have dreams of owning their own equestrian business in the future and with a
strong bond and strong goals, I’m sure they will have great success.
I hope you enjoy getting to know all the riders in this issue. Don’t be surprised if you
know some of them—it’s a small horse world, after all.
