n the bustling world of running an equine

business (or two), where days stretch long into

the arena lights and travel plans are dictated

by show calendars, it’s rare to find not only business

success, but also true romance. Yet for husband-

and-wife team Sylvain Houry and Lindsey Knight,

that rare pairing of entrepreneurial drive and

equestrian excellence is their way of life.

LINDSEY KNIGHT

SECRET TO A SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP

By Diana Bezdedeanu

Sylvain, founder of the saddle brand Arion

Sellier, and Lindsey, a respected trainer and

broker, are not only partners in life but also each

other’s biggest supporters. Together, they manage

demanding careers—Sylvain’s brand has rapidly

grown in influence across the U.S. and Europe,

while Lindsey helms a top-tier equestrian

program with training bases in both Litchfield,

Connecticut, and Wellington, Florida. Sylvain

and Lindsey’s bond is one built in the barn, tested

on the road and strengthened by the horses they

care for and the dreams they pursue.

So, what is the secret behind their success?

How do they balance two bustling equine

businesses and still make time for each other?

“Balance?” Lindsey laughed. “We try to, but

the reality is, we both work. You have to, to

do this business. I’m very lucky to do life with

somebody who’s also passionate about horses

and understands my hectic schedule.”

“We always love to see each other and to

spend time together,” Sylvain added. “But I

know in the summertime, she’s going to be

gone every two weeks at a horse show and I’m

trying to follow along to see her. In wintertime

it’s easier because at least we’re together in

Wellington; there’s not much traveling. But that’s

the way we’re living: We travel a lot and just

make the most of it.”
