’m excited for this issue—it’s packed with amazing stories of successful and talented
equestrians, including our cover story featuring husband-and-wife eventers Leslie Law
and Lesley Grant-Law. They have the same first names, just spelled differently—and they
definitely share the same love for eventing.
I enjoyed getting to know Leslie (the husband) and Lesley (the wife)—and in their story,
Lesley does share a funny story about how having the same names can be quite the adventure.
They are both quite accomplished in the eventing world. As a member of the British eventing
team, Leslie won the individual gold medal and team silver at the Athens 2004 Summer
Olympics. Lesley competed twice at the Rolex Kentucky CCI5*, numerous four-star longs and
has been short- and long-listed to many Canadian teams.
The Laws live in Ocala, Florida, with their son Liam, and although he learned to ride,
his true passion is soccer. Leslie is the chef d’equipe and high-performance manager for the
Defender U.S. Eventing Team. Together with his wife, they run Law Eventing.
The powerhouse couple works hard, and I loved learning about their down time, when,
along with Liam, they escape for a few days of R&R. I think you’ll enjoy getting to know more
about their lives.
I’m also excited to feature mindset coach Nancy Dye, who not only loves her life in the horse
world but loves helping riders transform their lives and brains. Nancy jokes that she was born
into the Witness Protection Program, and while she really wasn’t, to this day she wears her
signature dark aviator sunglasses—as you will see in her photos.
Nancy works with riders of all levels and recently worked with Dartmouth College’s NCEA
team, which had an historic win shortly after she coached them. No matter what she’s doing,
Nancy said the barn is her place to get re-centered, and I’m sure many equestrians can relate.
I’m also happy to introduce you to husband-and-wife duo Mark and Sophie Kinsella. The
couple lives in California, where they run their MK Equestrian in Los Angeles. Mark is an Irish
show jumper and spent years riding with Olympian Cian O’Connor.
In addition to both being accomplished riders, they are parents to Cooper and a new baby
girl named Poppy. Sophie’s humor is evident when she talks about raising Cooper and she
shares many of his adventures online. I loved getting to know this couple, from how they met to
their talent in the ring, to their life building their barn and business.
I hope you will take time to pull up a tack trunk and get to know all the amazing equestrians
in this issue. There are stories to inspire you, stories to make you smile, stories about resilience,
and through all of them runs the theme of equestrians enjoying life and love.
